Looking back upon my life And the places that I've been Pictures, faces, those I've loved I try to remember when Faded memories on the wall Some names I have forgotten But each one is a memory I Look back on so often.
A screwbald mare was standing upon the edge of the cliff side, head pearing down into the hollow eath, eyes watering as much as the river below. Her mane slapped against her skull, banner lashed against her ribs, but she didnt feel, she didnt care.
Looking back upon my life Faded memories on the wall Looking now at who I am I don't let it get me down.
Tearing her gaze away from the spot where he fell, where he died, she stared over her shoulder and sighed. The place where they met, between the two, tall apple trees, just saplings at the time, but now full and thick with fruit. She could berly breath with the memories of her past. Dustin was gone, she had to get over it. He was dead, gone, forever......
Looking back what I have done There's lots more life to live At times I feel overwhelmed I question what I can give But I don't let it get me down Or cause me too much sorrow There's no doubt about who I am I always have tomorrow

((beware..I have no muse)) (I am using both Exaclibur's Rose and Rishka here, if you don't mind) The faint beat of two sets of hooves rumbled over the grassy cliff that over looked the seas. The muffled echoing sound tolled over the place as a mare and stallion trotted up to the edge. They stood alongside another mare, one they didn't know. For they were newcomers. They knew not of the lives of many taken by those rolling crests down below. [/color] Rishka nodded towards the lone mare. Indicating that another was there with them to his sister, Excalibur's Rose.
They had come a long way from Alabama. This place was so different from their homelands, everyone was seperated and there was an eerie layer that seemed to settle over the place.
Rishka decided he would be the first to speak..'Lo there miss. Pardon me if I am interrupting some of your thoughts, but do you mind telling us where we are? Excalibur's Rose rolled her eyes at her brother and bumped sides with him. You could have just left her alone. She whispered.
Pardon my brother, he forgets his manners sometimes. I am Excalibur's Rose and he is Rishka. She stated in as much of a polite voice that she could muster up.

The sound of hoof beats were lost upon her, she was so lost within her own mind that she had no time to listen to the sounds echoing about her, the sea, the rocks, the gulls, non of them mattered. She was alone, she had lost the only thang that mattered to her.
Her life had been hell so far. Bayard had been cruel and allowed his mares to hurt and abuse her, both mantaly and physicaly. He raped her, forcing her with his child at such a young age, her foal had died during birth, lost to his fathers hate. Then Bayard had left, after her trusted friend Spirit stole his mare, Amber, and she had escaped. Free. Wild. Happy. But then she met him. Dustin. She had loved him, but they had become separated, he became miserable and jumped off this very cliff, Rain had watched him, just as she was about to be reunited with her other half, she lost it. Forever. Now Spirit was dead, she knew no one. She hadnt been to the shores in years, not since the stallion died. She couldnt go without seeing her friend there, it would be too painful.....
A voice rang in her ears and she awoke, jerking up her head and sending a wave of brown hair flying across her withers. She turned and saw the stallion and the mare, at first, she thought them mates, but the mare told otherwise. They were siblings.
"H-hello. I am Rain. These lands are mostly un-named terrain, humans have not yet claimed thier rights over it. But this is the oceon cliff, simple, really."
She answered, glad to be able to talk in such a neutral way. She didnt have to be loving, or happy, just kind. She succeeded in hiding away her emotions and smiled at the two.

((I'm in a funny mood so excuse me for some of the things in this post, if i transfer the funny)) There was a long pause amoung the three equines, no one spoke or moved. How awkward.
Rishka snorted when a sea faring bug landed atop it, it didn't budge. He tossed his head up, it looked as if he were twitching wildly trying to get the nag off of his snout. When finally, after a series of tossing and snorting, the bug went on its way. A strange expression was now settled on his face and Excalibur decided she best take it from here.
It is a pleasure to meet you Rain, and thank you for that information. We appreciate it...or I know I do anyway. May I ask what brings a lovely mare to this high cliff alone? She stated in a soft voice, which was usually not her tone.
Rishka had wandered off to grab a few apples from the low swinging boughs of the apple trees not to far off. He came back and spoke, flinging a few apple crumbs around as he did. Yes, I also appreciate that information. Do you know of any herds about that may be seeking some new members to liven the place up? He said hoping that he didn't look like a complete idiot, although he is sure that that was already accomplished because of that dern bug. ((Bold = Excalibur, Underline = Rishka))

[ Got it *nods* ] Rain watched the two in silence for a moment or two, staying quiet durng the short period when the stallion tossed his face back and forth, the gnat firmly sticking to his maw, but soon leaving his perch rather reluctantly.
Soon, though, the silence was intterupted by the mare. She was pondering the question, but before she could answer, the stallion spoke, pushing all other thoughts aside.
"Well there are four herds that i know of, and two of these i have met. Windago, i belive, is the leader of the island, but it may be hard to get there, for is is hidden, and the Sandy shores, lead by Flamed Storm, son of Spirit. I knew his father, but have never met the young stag himself. Though his father was very kind to me, and his mother was very welcoming. I have had no news after Storms parents deaths though. Poor creature, orphaned at such a young age, made to become a stallion when he was just a mere colt......"
She dirfted off into silence, audes pressed against her skull and eyes gazing down below the cliffs. A stretch of sand lay far to the left, a few miles away, the home of the Sandy Shores herd. She wished to return, but she had become a loner, after her mates death.
During the uncomfortable silence, Rains mind went back to the mares question. What am i doing here? She wondered to herself. Am i foolish? Coming back to where so many have lost thier lives, to where the colt Storm almost died, but was saved thanks to the great Windago? She shook her head and forced the memory of the young, black stag sailing through the air, the white colt Curse and his sister Magie watching pittfully as he fell, plumeting down, narrowly missing the rocks....
She gasped, the echo of the daydream hitting her full force, it caused her to become breathless. She she sucked in air, she turned to the mare, her withers shaking furiously as if she had been attacked by a wild cougar, or hunted by man....
"As for why i am here, m'lady. I have simply come to bring peace to those who have lost thier lives upon the rocks below....inclusing my dear, dear mate....Dustin...."

In the sky he saw his lover. The one he had thought would be his love forever. The sadness of another male stuck him. Did she care that he had gone? She never seemed to weep at night though he always watched over her. It brought tears to his eyes as he saw the other stag. But what could he do? He was gone now but he could keep watching her forever. Like every night he gazed up into her beautiful eyes. And wished that she once more was his mate. He loved her as much as anyone could love. His heart pured out to her. But did she care. He trotted past. Her in a ghostly form. Nuzzling her on her cheek bone. The last time they were together she had blamed him. Though all he had done was look out for her.
His heart was torm in two.

Rain felt coldness sweep over her cheek. She shuddered at the touch of wind, or the spirits that resided here. She could feel the presence, she had a gift, yet it cursed her. She knew who was beside her. Dustin. She didnt show her fear and saddness to the others, she didnt tell them that her former mate was standing in his ghostly form beside her. She couldnt, what would she say? They would think her mad, but she did whisper, so that hopefully tey wouldnt hear her. "Dustin, leave me alone. Youve dont enough already. I dont want the memories, i just want to move on." She didnt want to wallow in the past. She didnt cry at night, she couldnt. She was a sentimental mare, she knew the future was far greater than the past, but Dustin was making it worse for her.
Couldnt he see that she was okay? Did he want her to kill herself for him? To be so enraged in sadness that she died? No, rain would never become that mare. She couldnt, but he wanted it. She could feel it. And it just wasnt fair of him to do it. She was over it, she was finaly happy again, for ther first time after his death, then he dragged the feelings straight back at her.

Rishka bowed his head in an apologetic manner, I am so sorry to hear that you lost someone so near and dear to you. May he be resting in peace. He lifted his crown once more to look upon the friendly mare. But I do thank you for that information on the herds, I think I'll go and seek one out for now. He bowed his head once more before trotting down the cliffside in search of a new home.
Excalibur's Rose looked upon the sullen mare. I to am sorry for your loss. Just remember what you can before moving on, don't let it overwhelm you. She to had had a loss such as her's, only it was her other brother who had passed. It drove her mad until she was finally able to move on, after seeing him one last time.

She wanted him to leave. That upset him most. He still missed her even if she didnt miss him. Was it his fault that he was dead. gone? He felt like he was to blame but how? He couldn't move on. He wanted to be real to be hugging her at this moment to look after her properly. He didn't want her to forget him. He thought they had something special which perhaps others didn't have. Oh his love was so real for her. Still so real.
