HARLEQUIN ____________________________________
AGE 3 years
GENDER Mare
PERSONALITY Harley is a rather free-spirited mare. She enjoys playing harmless pranks, romping around with young horses and foals like she was still a yearling. She has an over all playful nature, and she's a big sweetheart to everyone she meets. Some may think her immature, but Harley prefers to think of it as just living life the way it was meant to be lived. Having fun! But despite having such a playful and silly nature, she is an intelligent mare, and has a serious side. It doesn't show often, but she does know when to be serious, and when she should try to lighten the mood. Which, by the way, is one of her specialties. She is a trusting and loyal mare, and makes friends rather easily because of her open personality. Something that not many have these days, or so she thinks. Harley really is a sweetie, and trusts absolutely, even when she shouldn't. She believes that everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt, and she trusts pretty much anyone that she meets. Which, more often than not, gets her in trouble, especially when she comes across those who's intentions are not always as pure as Harley's. She's rather naive in that aspect, and has a rather simple view of the world, believing that everyone has some good in them and deserves her trust. Except in the area of stallions. Most she doesn't trust hardly at all, no matter what, do to an incident in her past.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION Harley. (<- click for picture). Harley is fairly gorgeous young Appaloosa mare, with a light palomino coloring splattered with white. She has a simple white blanket on her rump, with little round dots of her main palomino color mixed in. The white continues up her spine in almost a roan like pattern, ending at her withers. Her mane, tail, and forelock are all pure white, and long. Her tail hangs down to her fetlocks, and her mane hits about mid-shoulder on her at it's longest point. Both are rather thin though. Her forelock on the other hand, is both long and thick, covering her eyes easily if she doesn't keep it to the middle of her forehead or thrown back. The only other patches of white on her body are a small snip on her nose, two socks (one on each back leg), and two pasterns (one on each front leg). All four of her hooves are white and striped in grays and blacks, ture to her Appaloosa heritage. Her left eye is a deep chocolate brown, while the right is a light blue in color and clouded over with a milky white (she's blind in this eye).
She has a rather light build, and stands at only 15 hands at the withers. Her muscling is lean, and spread fairly evenly throughout her body. She has the build of more of the runner than a fighter. Her legs are long, and she walks rather gracefully with a long stride and flowing gait. She's fairly balanced in build as well, with her back end being just the slightest bit smaller in comparison to the rest of her. Her chest is deep and fairly wide, but not as wide as some horse's. Her hindquarters are powerful, if a bit lighter than her breed calls for. She has a very feminine face, big, open eyes and delicate ears, giving her a gentle and sweet look to her. Something that she doesn't really have to try hard to do, but it helps.
HISTORY Harley grew up in a large herd in the lands of Night Sky, where her mother was the lead mare of the herd. Her father, however, wasn't the lead stallion, as most thought he was. Harley was the product of another stallion force breeding her mother when she was outside of her herd's land boundaries, looking for new members. The only other horse that knew about this was Harley's adoptive father, her herd's lead stallion. He raised Harley as his own, and she probably wouldn't have known that he wasn't really her father if her mother hadn't told her when she was a yearling. The truth about her father might have been questioned by the herd more if she hadn't looked like her mother so much. The only difference was Harley's light build, which she got from her real father. Her mother was of a rather stocky build, as was her father.
She grew up living a very comfortable life, loved by everyone in her herd. She had lots of friends, and no desire to leave as she got older. But that changed shortly after she turned 2 and half years old. She was out exploring with one of her closest friends (her half sister in fact), when a rogue stallion happened upon them. Ignoring her sister, he immediatly took after Harley, aiming to make her the start of his herd. While she was trying to protect her sister, she found herself getting herded (in the form of harsh nips, bites and strikes at her) farther and farther away from her herd lands. Her sister had gone back for help, but by the time she got back, it was to late. Harley and the stallion were gone.
She tried to escape many times over the next few months, but never succeeded. In fact, her blindness in her right eye was a product of her trying to escape the most recent time. He came after her, and while aiming a kick at her shoulder as punishment, she turned around at the wrong moment and took the kick to the right side of her head. It knocked her out, and when she woke up, she woke up with no sight in her right eye, and she had lost most of the memories she'd had from her childhood in her herd. After realizing that Harley was now blind, the stallion left her, stumbling and confused about what had happened. She's been wandering the lands of Night Sky by herself now for almost 2 months, slowly adjusting to her lack of memory and eyesight.
