Sinew streached, claws extended tearing into the tender layer of dirt and grass that coated the ground. Barrel expanded, lungs expanding, air rushing to the finite blood vessels powering the body with it's oxygen scource. Labrums pulled up from their proper place, hiding her sharp white fangs. Auds pricked, orbs ever tracking the darting brown body that dashed like mad afore her.
She pushed her body forward harder with her hind legs, placing herself right up on the hare's tail. One last burst from her hind legs and the rabbit was snatched up in her powerful jaws. As the rabbit struggled and fought her jaws clamped harder around the creature and dialn whipped back and forth, violently shaking the thing and ripping arteries and life from it all at once. As the creature's struggles slowed, so did the fae cease the whipping of it back and forth.
The adrenaline pumped through ber lithe bodice, it wasn't much, nothing like she would have and if she had decided to attempt to go after one of those horses. But a creature of that size was near impossible to kill without another pack mate. Though her stomach was stirring at her success of this catching of the hare, loneliness bit at her core. The dead rabbit lay at her paws, her dial raised, she was quite a sight to see raising her voice to the dawning moon. 'AaaoooOOOoooooooOOOOOOOO!'
Her call raised and danced, reverberating around the lands, carried on the wind, echoing and bouncing through trees, across fields and plains, slowly fading into the dawning night. Was there anyone else here? These lands couldn't possible be empty of predators...it was prime hunting grounds... Auds pricked briefly as she paused listening for a response. When a few moments passed and there was no immediate reply, the fae set about devouring her easy meal. She was getting tired of hare and other little creatures...soon she would be craving leaner and larger meats. Something that could sustain her for weeks should it come to that.

Mneme [glow=beige,2,300]Try to remember me[/glow] Mneme trotted onto the field. Each step forward and powerful. Her legs lifted in a high precise arch, putting immense effort into each step she took. Her russet mane and tail flowed like a flying banner in the wind behind her. Mneme was in no rush. Why would she be? There was only her in her world. At least now.
A bone chilling howl gave a twinge of curiosity in her. It didn't sound like a coyote, deeper, more powerful. What could it be? She'd defiantly never seen any larger canines than the coyote in her desert home. Could the lush area around here have set seed to a larger creature. Her coppery ears pinned against her mane, neck arching stiffly. No fear in her at all she marched forward with vigor in her legs. She whinnied in response to the howl, letting the creature know she was coming. Coming to see who on earth was there.
As her vision peaked over the horizon she could see a dot of a creature far out from her vision and the wind passed by her, carrying the sent down into the valley, probably right to the singular animal. Good, she didn't need to face a pace right now. She picked up a left lead canter, propelling herself over the ground and pricking up her ears in a gently curious fashion. The closer she got the more intriguing the animal seemed to her. Bigger than a coyote by at least twice the weight, nor was it tan like a coyote. In stead a mixture of black, white and some brown.
She stopped abruptly about 6 feet from the creature's guessed striking range, lowering her neck and looking at the odd canine intrusively. "You!" she said gruffly, striking her thick brown hoof against the mire. "What...are you?" Her voice lightened a little that time blowing air out on the creature boldly. Perhaps it was a little foolish, but she was alone, and Mneme was a strong mare practically in her prime. [glow=beige,2,300]I'll always remember you[/glow]

No echoing reply came. Ears quivered, straining to hear any reply at all. Still none came. Her gaze turned down to the rabbit, taking its last quivering breaths at her forepaws. Pitiful. Huffing sigh issued from her nose, and her lips curled up, as she took her first bite, tearing the rabbits flesh open. Warm blood covered her muzzle, dripping from her mouth onto her fur as she ripped the little rabbit's body into smaller, swallow-able sized pieces and scarfed them down. These snacks were good play, but she was really craving some more serious meat. Something she could stash away and nibble at for weeks.
She had just finished her snack when dinner for the next few weeks cantered into view. ...except it was coming towards her...intentionally. How interesting...my dinner comes to me here? Intently she tracked the beast, waiting to see what, exactly, this creature was doing. Unconsciously, her tongue traced her lips, working on getting what bloodstains it could off of her face. She would need to bathe in a stream soon to get it all off. Nose twitched, traking the animal's scent carried by the wind. Horse. Mare. Mature.
The mare stopped with enough room that she couldn't just pounce on her, rip her jugular and wait for her to die. Shame. Eh, well nothign in life came that easy. Besides, that took all the fun out of it anyways. Ah, how she loved a good chase, the run, the rush, the final moment of the pounce... She stood, shaking herself from head to toe, bringing herself back to the present. "You!" She turned her gaze to the equine standing in front of her. "What...are you?
"I am a Wolf, thank you." Though she wanted badly to just give chase to this mare and use her for her meals for the next...month, maybe; it seemed she wanted something...and dissapointingly to her stomach, her curiosity got the better of her. "Do you always make a point of marching up to those who eat your kind and demanding to know, what, exactly, they are?"
Eyes watched the mare intently, examining every hunk of meaty flesh on her. What a nice meal she would make..damn curiosity...If she only hadn't just eaten that rabbit to fill her stomach...

Mneme [glow=beige,2,300] Try to remember me...[/glow] The chestnut flattened her ears. "You? You intend to eat me?" A loud gust of air left her lip in slight annoyance. Was this creature serious? Surely not. Coyotes where she came from would often chase after her, but never caused her any issue. Of course they didn't really chase HER. Mneme would never run from them. She'd found over the course of time if you wait for the right moment at the very least a weak kick from her could snap it's jaw off. On more than one occasion she'd hit it in the head, killing it instantly. This creature was not so much bigger than it's counter part the coyote. She was certian that alone, it had no chance of doing anything but endangering itself.
"You do realise you're awful small from this vantage point to be making such idol threats. I see no pack around here. You are alone." She hissed lowly, a disgusted look on her face as she circled this 'wolf'. Her russet hind quarters stayed tipped towards the creature, a sure promise of a nice swift kick from the powerful legs. "As for my habits? I really can't see how they are even possibly your business...but just so you know when I see no threat in the creature I'm approaching why should I be cautious." Mneme reared up and struck out her two front feet, giving an awful whinny to show off her point.
The mare wasn't old, no still young by most definitions of the word. She'd seen a lot of things in her time though. Enough to weigh her choices with the canid. Her honey eyes caught the hungry gaze of the predetor. "Perhaps if you had some friends around I'd be more bothered by you, but right now, you pose little threat...would you stop looking at me like that?!" She snorted, her teeth baring. That was the problem with carnivores, it was always food food food on the brain. In Mneme's mind horses were supirior, even back in the day where humans roamed, she believed that. Even as the stole her foal from by her side, she believed that. Her kind would have never done anything so dreadful, and it was obvious in places like this, where horses seemed to rein supreme, that it was mostly peace that occured. That was simply how they were made to be unlike these...things.
"And do you always make it such a point to travel alone 'wolf'?" She said snidely. "Even for your kind I cannot see how that would be benificial to anyone. I doubt you could even dream of tearing into me without loosing the function in your jaw...if I didn't trample you first. That muscle you're drooling over for food isn't still friendly when it has life to kick still inside it." Was she mocking the creature? It hadn't been her origional intent, but she was perturbed that it would so boldly annouce it would over power and eat her. [glow=beige,2,300] I'll always remember you.[/glow]

Naturally, the mare was offended. she had threatened her life. She made an angry face, her ears pinned to her skull, which just looked ridiculous because horses all had such long faces. The femme let out a sneeze, the equivalent of laughter. "Intent to eat you? Unfortunately, for now, no. I just had a snack that managed to fill my belly, as you can see." She glanced pointedly to the few scattered rabbit bones that remained. "I'd have long since chased you if I wanted to eat you that badly." Alone, facing this mare directly, with a full stomach, she might not be able to take her unless circumstances proved to be in her favor... However, since they clearly weren't because the mare wasn't limping or bleeding already...well, she was experienced enough not to try. the confidence this mare showed might seem foolish, especially since Darmii had eaten enough of her kind to know that it would only take on other wolf to pose a true threat, but she was seasoned enough to wait and see if this mare proved herself seasoned or foolish.
...then, almost naturally, the mare threatened her back, mocking her small stature with her massive size and hooves. the mare circled her, menacingly. Lip curled, showing her thick, strong fangs, still tinged red from the blood of the rabbit. The wolf turned, keeping her face to the horse as she circled. Her hind quarters danced closer, a clear threat of a kick. A rumbling growl rose deep from her gut, jaw snapping in the mare's direction, threatening a potential kick with a surprising punishment of teeth sinking into her flesh. sure this mare was larger than her, and could easily do any of the things she threatened, but she had dealt with hooves, and antlers for too long not to know that if she was too close to dodge a kick that the best thing was to leap at the animal's leg, lessening the blow to give her a couple bruised or cracked ribs instead of broken ones.
The mare reared up, whinnying fiercely, still attempting to scare her off. "Impressive." she said flatly. Clearly not impressed by being threatened with something she had dealt with her entire life. She might be alone now, but she was experienced in her own right, and was seasoned enough to know when she was or wasn't actually going to be pummeled with hooves. "I may not be a threat now, but there is always the future. You wouldn't want to mock me and threaten me when I might come back alter and eat you or your offspring later." She paused, studying the mare. "Unless, of course, you mean to attempt to kill me now."
Single brow raised slightly, waiting; when the mare, finally exasperated with her predatory gaze bared her teeth at her for looking at her like food. So no killing...interesting. Still, the fae did not flinch. she might not have interacted with her prey quite like this before, but it was still obvious when she was truly being threatened. Not that anything this mare was threatening wasn't real - quite the opposite in fact. She knew it was real, she was simply aware that if this mare truly intended to harm her, she would have long since done it, and not stopped to chat idly before she did so.
"I don't see what any intention of mine is to you, horse. As for any insight you have into my kind, I do not know, but I fail to see what point there would be to explain it to you. That would spoil some things now, wouldn't it." Femme pushed air through her nose in a slight huffing chortle. "As for your muscle...well, it's not the muscle that makes the meal, it's the fat that provides all the flavor..." the predator's eyes roamed over the mare's haunches briefly. "I doubt you would have much flavor to you... disappointing, really." The wolf shook her body out, still keeping an eye on the equine. "A waste of my time and energy, I think." Waste of time indeed. Her paws and face were still bloody. She needed to bathe before they were left blood-stained. Time to find some running water. The wolf looked at the mare. "I have better use of my time than to dwadle here and make idle threats with you. If you ever have anyone that needs to be...taken care of..perhaps you will find me again in a generous mood." With that the femme turned and loped off across the meadow.
