The sound of the water lapping the sandy shore was soothing to Dawn’s ears. She slowly walked along the water’s edge, gazing at the clear blue of the tropical ocean. She had never seen water so clear before, as she had just recently come to the land that was owned by the Night Sky herd. She looked around at her surroundings, trying to take in the immense amount of land that surrounded her. As she gazed at it, in complete awe, she wondered why, and more importantly, how, she had never come across this utopia before.
She slowly walked along the shore, trying to kill some time. It’s so pretty here, it’s almost too good to be true, she thought. Too bad it’s completely and utterly deserted. Now she was just pacing, doing absolutely nothing. Dawn reached one end of the beach, and pawed the ground with one glossy black hoof. The sand was a silvery white; it went perfectly with the landscape. Dawn was one to compare colors, and try to match everything, no matter where it was. Some would say she was a little OCD about it, but it was no big deal, everyone has their little quirks.
Near the ocean it was windy, and there was no place to take refuge from it. No trees, nothing. In a way, it was a vast abyss of nothing, if you stood at the edge of where the sand and grass started to blend together. The ocean seemed to stretch for an eternity, forever.
Oh, this is absolute bliss. I come here, and who’s here to welcome me? The ocean, the wind, and not a single being around. Nothing, in other words. But I came here to have fun, to escape life, to make the best of it. Life is short, make the best of it, she thought. What an overused cliché. As much sense as it made, Dawn found that saying awful, same with most other clichés. She was sort of particular when it came for her to choose words to say, or even think. She enjoyed sounding intelligent, she found being uneducated completely awful, unacceptable. That was probably why her relationships didn’t last for long; she had to lower her standards a bit, because not everybody was going to fit them. Maybe a small percentage of the population on the entire globe, but not everywhere, that’s for sure. Dawn came to a painfully accurate realization that if she didn’t try to make things work with her friends, or whoever she hung around with, she would spend the rest of her life alone.
With that being said, Dawn pushed all of her negative thoughts aside, and decided to make the best of her life. Even if no one was with her at the moment, she had always enjoyed swimming. She flipped her ebony mane to the correct side of her neck; the wind had made it fly in twenty different directions, and took a deep breath. Dawn closed her eyes, and took the plunge into her new life, her newfound perspective on life, and in actuality, the surprisingly cold water. It’s fall, what did you expect? Dawn ignored everything, and tried to let her body relax as she swam around in the water, which was just deep enough for her hooves to not be touching the sandy bottom.
