It was blazing out. The heat never seemed to disappear. Even for a being with no ebony placed upon her fine looks, she was losing energy . . . and fast. Of course, the heat could've been getting to her out of mere boredom. This place, this new place she came across seemed so boring. No drama, no fun. Flickering her black audits, she stopped walking and stood in the middle of a field. Mares surrounded her, grazing
Strutting across the terrain, her hips and tail swaying from side to side in a seductive manner, she moved away into the shaded trees. She strutted even without the presence of a stallion or any other. That's just how she walked. She had to carry herself with respect, dominance, seductive, and a sexy manne. If she didn't come off as sexy, more boring, who would want to create a future with her? Ha, not like mist really was looking for a future with anyone. She was young and wanted to remember these days as fun with her love. A bad-ass would be her best move to live life. They'd have to be real with her like she was with them. Well . . . as real as they'd believe. She was cunning, smart, and manipulative. She was of average height, exotic eyes, and extraordinary beauty.
Passing by the trees as if nothing would harm her, she found herself standing at the edge of two worlds. Forest behind her and ocean in front of her. Perfect . . . she thought with a smirk upon her face. If a brute found her here, their time would be even more perfect . . . even more romantic. She could stand up for herself, she could care for herself, she could do and get anything for herself but she wanted someone to help. A good fight for her would kill her - it'd be too much excitement and fun in her life. She'd explode. Maybe implode? Flicking her black colored tail to the side, she walked along the water's edge. The cool water rushed up her legs and receded. It was perfect. She was perfect.

A vast expanse of blue, always moving. Neither the end nor the bottom was visible. Roaring, and then hissing as it met land. Nagisa had always wanted to come see this crazy phenomenon, and now she was too scared to even put a foot in it. The mare just stood and watched the water constantly roll in, spread thin, and rush back out. Like it was alive. Like it was breathing.
Finally she sidled into the tide's range. With an angry fizzle, the foam rushed around her feet. Sand was sucked from beneath her feet, giving the impression that the very ground was shifting. But the mare managed to forget that as she observed the water gliding past, delicate patterns forming and dissolving in the froth. And then it was gone, and she was still alive.
Nagisa celebrated her victory by getting the ocean all over her.
Cracked hooves bombarded the surface, striving to launch as much water as possible. The rest of her body followed, filly-like in its wild, joyous cavorting. Squealing, she lurched away as the water hit her face; winter's chill was still very much present in the fluid. Cold could be nice, though, especially on a day that was warmer than a spring day had any business to be. The rabicano continued her dance, loving and hating the chill, finding it both invigorating and bitter. Soon there wasn't an inch of her that wasn't sopping wet.
A new scent joined the sharp saltiness on the breeze. A glance at the shore confirmed her suspicions that the smell was that of a newcomer. A young grey mare, to be exact, apparently lost in thought at the water’s edge. Letting loose a warm nicker, she approached at a lively two-step. Her hooves rose high with each step, not only to avoid the liquid's drag, but to cause superfluous splashing.
As she'd always been taught, she stopped with a few yards between her and the stranger. Enough to give her fair warning if the stranger charged. "Afternoon!" She called, over the din of the waves. "Whopper of a puddle, yeah?"

Now that she could get a closer look, Nagisa was instantly reminded of Andromeda. This new mare was quite the elegant little thing, the kind that drew boys' eyes like flies. This didn't quite inspire the feelings of inferiority that it once did, however. Nagisa had been spending quite a bit of time with her fellow equines; mares that didn't deem themselves too good to speak with her, and stallions who didn't seem to find her particularly annoying. Companionship was doing a lot of good. Much more than her moping seclusion had done. Maybe, one day, the incident with Romulus and Andromeda would never trouble her again.
Besides, this mare's smile was sincere, so far as she could tell.
The older mare moved a little closer. Enough to seem friendlier, while still having consideration for any personal space issues. Her feet were placed with much more care this time; extravagant splashing wasn't a good idea now.
The cry of a seabird punctuated the silence, as Nagisa fumbled with what to say next. Her conversation skills were returning as well, but not as quickly as she would like. "So, what herd d'you belong to? Or maybe youse new to th'realm?"

"Oh, welcome t'the valley, then. Pretty nice place, haven't found much to complain about." Snorting, she shook her head, dislodging the flies that were pestering her doe-like eyes. "Well...naw, I kinda like a fella who's dependable, y'know? But that's jus' me." She hadn't given it much thought lately, what sort of a stallion she did want. She wasn't sure she wanted to try getting back into that mess yet; right now she was just trying to recover her social confidence. Love was a risky, emotionally violent business, and Nagisa wasn't much of a risk-taker. It didn't help that the one time she had taken the plunge, she was cast aside when something better came along.
Which was why the whole idea of finding romance with a 'bad boy' seemed silly to her. That was just the kind of stallion who would leave you when he got bored of you, and the little quarab desperately wanted to avoid ever feeling that kind of rejection ever again. Maybe it was just something for the young and naive.
Thinking of it that way made her feel downright old.

Her thoughts were interrupted by a cold slap of water to the face. Spluttering, Nagisa's attention returned to her comrade, who appeared to be hoping for a counterstrike. Her brown eyes flared, and she spoke through gritted teeth. "Why, you little..."
Whipping around, her powerful hind feet launched her own barrage of sea water. But when she turned to check her aim, a grin marred her face. No real offense was taken.
Before her attacker could strike her again, Nagisa sprang away, giggling. This generated a great deal of splashing, and the mare squealed. Her darkened fur had been drying, accustoming itself to the gentle sun. Now she had to get used to this freezing bay all over again.
She didn't run far before turning back around, head lowered in an invitation to pursue. “C‘mon, now! See if y‘can‘t catch up wi‘me,” she teased, and bounced further out into the water.

How far did this expanse go? If she kept running, Nagisa wondered, would there even be an opposite shore? Or maybe this was the beginning of the edge of the world? None of the horses who'd told her about the ocean ever knew the answer. The splashes of her pursuer were getting closer, so she kept to her course. Try as she might, she couldn't run any faster.
The next time Nagisa crashed through the surface, her head went under. Terror fluttered in her chest as she struggled to the surface. Coughing, she thrashed as the waves tried to drag her further from land. When she struggled against it, however, she realized it wasn't difficult to move against the motion of the water. Her momentary panic was replaced by relief, even when another wave washed over her head. When the quarab resurfaced, she was laughing. "Retreat!" She called, working her way out of the deep end. As she went, she collected a mouthful of seawater, an unpleasant business to say the least.
She didn't stop until the water was only even with her shoulders. When she turned back to her companion, salt water came spraying from between her teeth. The resulting spray didn't get far before the wind picked it up, and a good potion of it was batted in Nagisa's face. Her target was untouched. "Well that didn't work, did it?" She laughed.

The younger mare was going to give the same tactic a try. Nagisa didn't run, choosing to try and dodge the attack. If it even came, that is; the rabicano half expected this to go just as poorly as her attempt did.
Instead, the mustang's saliva salvo went flawlessly. Before Nagisa could react, the arch of water hit her squarely between the eyes. With a yelp that dissolved into more laughter, she skittered back, half-rearing. "Youse got considerable more skill at doin' that," she complimented, keeping her eyes closed until the water dripped away from them.
The lull in conversation that followed seemed the perfect opportunity to take care of some unfinished business "Oh, I almos' dun forgot to introduce m'self." She drew herself up, posture improving faintly. Another result of her sophisticated mother's instructions. "Everybody calls me Nagisa, so you can too if ya wanna." Such an introduction would not have been so pleasing to her dam. "So what do I call you?"

"Alright then, Mist. Pleasure t'make yer acquaintance ," she replied. It was a good name. Common, but simple and easy to remember.
She followed Mist to the shore at a leisurely plod. But she didn't join in the mustang's little roll on the beach. Dirt baths were fine, but this tan powder was maddening to have under your fur.
As long as it didn't get all over her, she liked this sand, as it was supposedly called. It was nearly as fascinating as the ocean: ground that moved and gave way under the slightest footstep, yet stayed firm under the waves' constant pounding. Absently she pressed her hoof into the firm sand at the water's edge, then watched the foam eradicate the trace of anyone having been there. The mare repeated the process, rather amused.
That was about as much silence as she could take. Mist gave pretty concise answers. That was okay; Nagisa was a pretty loquacious equine, and she had a decent stock of conversation starting questions. "So, Mist, what sort of place did you come from? Before you got here, I mean." She didn't look up form her little battle with the water as she spoke.

mist got up and shook off then walked over watching the battle and giggled a little then said in a low voice "well i was far from here my mom gave birth to me but i wasn't the lead stallions daughter so when he found out he beet my mom to death and then beet me till i couldn't move i laid there till another mare found me and snuck me away sadly she was to old and died when i was young then i grew up strong i told myself i would never let a stallion hurt me again then i met a sweet one he was a bad boy and he protected me from humans and got shot for killing 3 of them so i ran and ended up here with no heard and no stallion" a tear ran down her face as she saw her first love being shot and his last words before she had to run she shook her head trying to look tough again
