Shadow tossed back his head and snorted lightly. He heard something heading there way and fast. It smelled like a bunch of horses but there was another sound to them. High pitched sounds. He reared up onto his hinds, fore-hooves lashing out at the air. He whinnied, landed, turned, and ran. The sound was disturbing and he wasn't going to wait around to see what it was. He had no herd to care for him, something had come and taken them away days ago.
He panted and kept going. He wouldn't let them take him away too. He galloped as hard as he could and went on longer even when he heard them stopping. He wasn't going to take any chances. Finally he slowed to a walk, still wanting to distance himself from those things even more. His head hung low as he tried to get his breath back. His lungs were burning but he refused to stop. Darkness fell and still he walked on.
