[.Light Blue= Magic Plum=Feather.][.The Dance, by Garth Brooks.]
She hadn't seen her daughter in a while know. The painted shire mare thought of the midnight shire-like mare. Magic had been through so much, poor thing. The mare stood inside the cave where Amber, Meg, and herself had stayed in through a blizzard. The little crack that led to a small place with grass and a trickle of water was still there. The fall dusk was a painting. The sky was full with all kinds of colors, and at the top of the sky was blackness filled with stars. The waves were calm, pulling in and out. The sea here was the home of many graves, one of her dear friend Spirit. The mare stood in the stillness of the evening, thinking.
"I love you mother..." The midnight shaded mare entered the cave. Her black forelock covered her muddy pools. It had been to long since she had told her mother she lover her. For she truly did. She stood beside the painted shire mare with her head setting on her shoulder. A deep sigh crossed her maw. Her words enter her adus unexpected, but they filled the mare with a warm feeling inside. "I love you too..." She repeated, then just gazed out into the sea with her daughter...frozen still in the dance.
"Looking back on the memory of The dance we shared 'neath the stars above For a moment all the world was right How could I have known that you'd ever say goodbye " "And now I'm glad I didn't know The way it all would end the way it all would go Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain But I'd of had to miss the dance " "Holding you I held everything For a moment wasn't I a king But if I'd only known how the king would fall Hey who's to say you know I might have changed it all " "And now I'm glad I didn't know The way it all would end the way it all would go Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain But I'd of had to miss the dance " "Yes my life is better left to chance I could have missed the pain but I'd of had to miss the dance"

It had been several days since he had spotted his love. Letting his feathered flints drag through hte sand, his head hung in a lax pose, auds foreward. It was a wonderful day. Autumn was his favorite season. The days were short and cool, but the sun was perfect. Not so sharp as summer, nor as pale as winter. It was perfect. And the air was crisp, and somehow, fresher. All of the day and night seemed to be in a still. Like nothing mattered, and life was perfect. Through sorrow or joy, everything was just fine. Lost in thoughts of autumn, his auds twitched to vocals. Rising his head and slowing his movements, he recognized the sounds. One familiar, Magic, the other was unknown, but they spoke lovingly to each other. It could only have been her mother.
Eager to reach the femmors, he trotted to the cave quickly before he stopped ot enter with a walk. As his amber pools fell upon the ebon creature, he smiled, face softening in adoration. Proptly hurrying to her, he nuzzled her boa and jaw line, nicking a sweet nothing. Then, he arched his nape to gaze at the paint.
"Greetings, ma'am." He hadn't met the lady yet. "I am Drift Wood. May I assume you to be Magic's Lady?"
His bulk shifted to his other side, brushing the dark draft lightly. Even without worries of her safety, it felt wonderful to be back at her side.

Magic's radars caught the sweet sounding lyrics of Driftwood. He was here, but had he heard her sing? She thought herself a terrible singer...even though she had a sweet voice. Her muddy pools looked into his, Curse had left once agian...so she had made the right choice. She looked at her mother then back to the stag.
"This is my mother..."
The painted shire mare looked over the muddy stag. He had called himself Driftwood; she presumed he had once been a drifter. The painted mare's icy blues looked at her daughter, nodding at her words.
"Feather...is what they call me, Driftwood."
She spoke sweetly in her usual tone. The mare slapped her sides with her banner, ridding of all the pesky bloodsuckers. Fall was beginning its rein upon the lands. Soon winter would be here.

Drift smiled and dipped his crania in respect to her. Amber pools watched the bold contrast coat of the mother, and he saw that Magic's beauty was no rare chance.
"A pleasure to meet you, Feather." He said softly. He straightened himself, not wanting to make a bad impression of himself to a figure of such importance in his life now. Each lightly feathers knife was planted firmly in the ground, muscles just tence enough under his hide to keep him from swaying. Bold, thick neck was proudly raising his large, chizled head proudly. Pale dreads caressed his neck gently, forelock hanging over the crisp, white blaze that tainted his brow.
Turned his muzzle, he nudged Magic under her chin, auds easing down. "I didn't know you could sing." He whispered quietly. "It was lovely."

T.he painted mare looked the stag up an down, he was a handsome stallion. She prayed he would not hurt her daughter, like Curse had. The painted mare;s icy blues closed for a moment...she heard something. A crackling sound....what was it? She walked out of the cave.
M.agic looked at him as he stood there, he was a handsome stallion. She felt a tug at her heart, and a smile across her muzzle. The mare listened to Driftwood as he spoke...he had heard her! The midnight mare felt embarrassed, and she could feel a cold sweat coming on. Her ears folded in embarrassment, but them she heard his next words. He liked her singing? Surly this was impossible...or was it?
"Thank you...."
F.eather's icy pools showed white as she saw what was before her. Smoke every where, and flamed ripped through the lands. The shore's forest was on flames...this could not be happening....
"Driftwood....I....lo-" "FIRE!
Magic had been cut off by her mother's words. The ebony mare couldn't believe the words that she just heard. She nuzzled Driftwood, then galloped out of the cave. She spun around on her haunches and what lay before her muddy pools scared her. Flames...The sands of the shore should be fine...but the forest was raging with flames. The cave was just on the outside of the forest....and Driftwood was still inside!
"Driftwood Hurry, m'love!"
The ebony mare didn't realize what she had said until she had already let it go. That was what she was going to tell him, before she was cut off by Feather. The mare knew there was no time to worry about her words...the three had the go close to the sea waters, and see if the herd was safe.

The stallion nuzzled the ebon mare's boa gently, his creamy forelock blending with her dreads. A smile was on his maw, a clear sign at the lightful joy in his heart. Raising a flint to his breast in angst, he drew back, only to gaze at his prize he adored so much. So this was love? This was the golden anchor that stole freedom, but at a cursed price he was more than willing to pay. Drift had always been a believer in happily ever after. If one wasn't, what was the point? How could one be happy, knowing it was all for nothing? Even if it was a lie, it was a comforting lie.
"You're welcome." He said softly and tapped her neck again. Amber pools closed to enjoy the soft moment, but his nare's opened. Something was wrong. No, it was nothing. Nothing could be wrong in such a time. Deep gazers parted at the sweet lyrics of his dove.
Spinning furiously at Feather's cries he reared and nipped Magic's flanks to have her hurry from the rock cave. Charging to the open he suddenly screams and rose upon his muscles hinds, swinging his forelimbs through the hot air. A tree branch had fallen before the mouth, a wall of flame before the cream-hued stallion. Screaming in desperation and rage he stepped back, then leaped over the trail of Hell and landed on hot, drying foliage. Galloping quickly he nipped at MAgic again.
"Hurry, Magic. Run quickly." Drift would not let Magic fall behind him, nor Feather. Galloping and herding the mare's to keep ahead of him, he would occasionally slow to see the pace of the flames and urged them onward. Despite the fear and adrenaline, one word lingered in his mind above all else, driving him onward harder and harder.
Love.

.†. Magic .†. .†. Can you feel it? .†. †. She felt the nip on her rump, and it sent her into a wild run. Her ears were pinned to her crane, and her feathers danced wildly around her legs. Her forelock was blown backward, and her mane raged like the fire itself. The white blaze showed like a white light as she ran toward the sea. If a rider was placed on her back, he would be able to feel her heart pound in her chest. Her hind quarters pushed faster and faster off the ground, she had to get to the sea. She looked back to see the flames mocking them all with its devilish ways. †. Hoof prints were left in the sand as she hit the thin layer of water. Fall had turned the waters cool, but it didn't bother the mare. What bothered her was the fact that she had no idea where her brother, his mate, and his foal were. She had no idea where anyone was, except for her mother and her love. As she watched the two run down the beach, she reared. Tossing her head wildly, her legs thrashing out, the white of her eyes showing, and calling for everyone. She prayed she would hear someone, anyone answer her call. She hoped her warning wasn't to late. Little did the ebony mare know, her niece was being take away from the shores. †. The ebony mare watched as her home burned. It saddened the mare, for she had so many memories locked away here. She had spent her whole life on these shores, leaving them hardly at all. Now the shores' forest was in flames.....†. Feather .†. .†. Dance in the breeze .†. †. The painted mare half-reared and turned side ways as she did. Her front hooves hit the earth with a thud, then they carried her away at a gallop. Her white and black mixed mane was in a wild dance. Her long banner floated behind her. Her icy pools showed white, and her muzzle screamed. The scream was not out of fear, but a warning. A warning to all of the blazing fire. Her hooves were so heavily feathered that it seemed white fire was blazing up her legs. It was only her shire blood though. The painted shire mare's dull daggers left indentions in the sand, but the mare didn't look back. All she could do was run. †. She hit the water as a wave brushed across the sea. It stopped her with a giant splash. The mare felt the cold salty droplets hit her body, and soak her mane and banner. This meant she would be cold, but the fire's heat would keep her some-what warm. She understood nature's ways, and some times she didn't like them....but she knew it happened for a reason. What caused the fire? She didn't know. The painted mare looked over to her daughter, and nuzzled her. The painted shire mare could only thank God her daughter was alright. †. She gazed at the flames that engulfed the lands. The heart of her chest throbbed from the excitement and pain. The mare watched Driftwood, hoping he would make it. Though she hardly knew the stag, she liked him. She knew her daughter had made the right choice this time.

[Occ; lol. I have to do this.. Coolie-o]
Meg.
Don't ever forget me. Umong the flames raced a poka dotted fae of the marvelous beauty. Her muscles rippled and gleamed under her hide. Her deep chocolate orbs looking out to the gathering on the beach, yet she continued to race rather in slow montion through the trees. Her pearly white mane danced behind her, ever blowing in a wind that blew not. Her tail trailed at her kicking hocks as she raced. Finally the mare of beauty came to a pause on the corner of the forestlands that were burning. Her ever lasting beauty seemed so real in the flickering flames and smoke. She stared at one and one only, Feather.
She stood still, only the flickering dancing flames bounded and jumped around her hocks. The smoke danced over her, and her seemed to vanish and come back with a transparent look. Her eyes cried out silently to Feather. With a gentle jerk of her skull back, she reared high on her hind stilts, age didn't matter anymore. She was ever youthful now. She pawed the sky, and a ghost like, eeiry cry called out to Feather. "Come home Feather. I miss you..." The words danced on the breeze that struck up suddenly, and floated to Feather's ears. "Come home..." She danced on her hind stilts for a moment more before she landed to the ground. With a nicker, she shook her dial and bounded into the flames, her beautiful poka dotted bodice caught in the flames.
