Snowflake yawned and stretched, soaking in the shade of a cherry tree. The pure, pink blossoms bursted colorfully against her white pelt, and gave her a sure belief that she should not be all alone, the only one to see the beauty. O, she was getting so tired of this routine of sit and wait...only once had anyone actually stopped by. Catalyst, and that Pyrefly charater...but, of course, they'd gone. Leaving her to stand alone on this hill. Snowflake figured she might as well just start calling it her hill, it wasn't as if it was taknig any other visitors. Oh, yes, it would openly welcome anyone to visit, yes. It wasn't as if it was replusive, warding away horses, not at all. It was peaceful, serene, picturesque. And the sparkling blue of the sea expanding beyond where it ended in a cliff finished it off. A mystery, it was, why only Snowflake had found it. It wasn't cut off from the rest of the world, it wasn't hidden. And most surely of all, she was convinced, it was not because she dwelled on it at the moment, that not a soul dared to climb it. That was an impossiblity. Was it not?

Kurime saw the other mare, a brilliant white pelt gleaming on the body. Kurime was bored, and unwanted so far, so she trotted over to the ivory coloured horse, and said boredly, dropping her wariness. She watched the mare, unsure of what to do. Finally, she asked cautiosly, "Hello... Are you waiting to be invited to a herd?" It was awkward, but the seemingly strong quarter-horse was glad she had met someone worthwhile to talk with. She pawed at the sand-covered and bleached grass beneath her hooves, dully thinking of ways to reinforce her 'Mask of Bravery'. It was a sorry way of life she led, but at least she still had one...

Snowflake smiled to herself. So she was not to melt away into nothing and be forgotten, after all. She walked up to the quarter horse, swinging her tail against the flies which tormented her. "Welcome to the hill..." she said, gesturing to the mound of earth where she'd been staying. "It ain't much, but it's a place to rest...and a good look out for stallions looknig for mares." Which I've really got to find... the snow white horse couldn't help thinking. "The grass gets thicker the higher you go on it...it's really good up by that tree at the top." The gargantuan elm welcomed her with its shady leaves, a repreive from the merciless heat. "You wanna join me up there? I'm Snowflake, by the way..." Yay...a chance to play smiling hostess...and a better chance to be seen by a lead, now that I'm not alone... The smile stuck to her face. She might be just about out of here...

Kurime relaxed slightly, as the white mare revealed her name. So, she wasn't some big gangster-type horse. Kurime donned her 'headstrong' masque, and whipped her mane cooly. "I've got nothing better to do, so, sure, why not?" With that, she started up the grassy hill, saying as she went, "Well, Snowflake, you've told me your name, I'll tell you mine." Kurime hesitated, now unsure that Snowflake had given her her true name. Oh, what the heck... She thought desperately. "I'm Kurime." This 'Snowflake' doesn't seem too bad... Yeah, she's trustable. Kurime concluded confidently.

Snowflake climbed beside her, trailing by a few feet, not wanting to appear too eager, growing agitated with the heat. She set her gaze longingly up at the cold darkness of the elm's shade. She quickened her pace, catching up to Kurime. Why did I have to pick some stupid steep hill to hang around? the lacey white mare asked herself, disappointed with her choice. I mean, the shade is sweet, but come on, why couldn't I just have docked myself by the beach? The water would be about as good, and I wouldn't have this accursed steepness to conquer every time i wanted to go somewhere... These thoughts lasted her until she reached the peak. "So, here we are...awesome view, eh?" Snowflake added, jerking her head at the picturesque shimmering blue of the waves spread below them.

Kurime wondered, amazed, how Snowflake could possibly hike up this mountainous spit of land every day. Sweat trickled down her brow, but she wasn't suffering so horribly. She joined her acquaintance at the top, seeking sanctuary in the shade of the great tree from the blistering heat. "Wow... it's quite alluring up here, isn't it?" She gazed at the cerulean water set out below the two mares longingly. "How much longer do you think we'll be stuck up here? No herd's showing much interest." She asked Snowflake, an edge of aloofness creeping into her voice. For a minute, the shining beauty of the scene simply stopped Kurime's crazed fear of heights. The seascape was a seemingly mystic thing, full of wonders, never ceasing. Kurime turned her attention back to Snowflake. "Um, do you want to do anything? Besides lounging under an old elm tree all day, doing nothing in particular?"

((eh? what do you mean?))
Snowflake looked at her with bored eyes and jaws clamped over grass they'd just plucked from the ground. "Yeah, of course I'd wanna do something other than this..." Who wouldn't? It was getting so old... "But it's not like there is anything to do besides lounge under an old elm tree all day...but hey, if you can come up with anything, I'm very much open to suggestions..." Chew, swallow, tear up more grass. thought the white mare. What an unbelievably boring schedual. Again she looked out over the edge, gazing into the waves lapping against the beach. Not a stallion to be seen on the sand. ...maybe I oughta switch hills...this one isn't working out so well any more...

{sorry.. ignore me... heh.} Kurime sighed. "Ah. I was hoping you'd have something to do..." Although she was already full, Kurime sampled the grass on the hill. At least it consumed time. She listlessly ate, and stopped to just enjoy the scenery, not sure that Snowflake would want to after being stuck in the middle of no excitement for ages. She sighed. "How do other mares stand it...?" She asked in despair. Everything was usually so caught up in turmoil, but not now. It was a bit nice to be able to stop and think for once, she just nickered softly in content.

With a sad sigh a bay stallion climed up the ocean cliffs. When he saw the two mares he whinnied loudly towards them and stood nearby. His mane was blowing back behind him as he looked at both mares with smiles. His name was Freedom Moon to all who had yet to meet him but everyone eles just called him Freedom. He then began to walk towards the two mares with his head held high in the salty sea breeze.

Kurime perked up her elegant chocolate ears when she heard the steady thud of hooves. She gently flicked her companion with her tail, whispering in an excited whinny. "Finally! A great stallion that can take us in..." She knew she was overreacting and being rude, but after what seemed an eternity drained of hope, (or what it felt like) Kurime was giddy with anticipation. She bowed her head to the bay stallion, her eyes dancing with delight. She respectfully and slowly raised her head. I'm too common... She thought despairingly. There were so many quarter horses from where I came... I'm just going to be stuck up here for eternity, aren't I? However, she did not let her eyes betray her lack of faith, and stood in stoic silence.

Freedom smiled to the two mares and then he gently nuzzles them both before he began to speak. " My name is Freedom Moon I am the lead stallion of the Rocky Mountains and I am here to find some new members. If you would like a home you can follow me to my home we would be happy to have you join." He said with a soft smile on his face as he looked from first one mare and then the other with a tilted head to await and see about their answers.

Kurime gave out a joyful nicker. "Thank you, Freedom Moon..!" She turned contentedly to Snowflake. "Come on, Snowflake!" Kurime said immaturely. She wasn't making a first impression, true, but she was simply happy at being taken into a herd at last. And a good one, too... She awkwardly, but respectfully nuzzled her new leader back. The mare waited patiently for her friend... after all, downhill would be easier than uphill.

Freedom watched the mare and laughed lightly at her reaction. " Mlady if I didn't know any better I would assume you to be a young foal but by your looks I know you are not that." He said while then nuzzaling her back and then looked towards the other mare who he assumed to be named Snowflake. " Mlady would you like to join us to the Rocky Mountains there is plenty of room there."
